busy weekend

Here's a quick update

Ambrose has been quite busy. He had a fun visit with second cousin Claire. Ambrose was quite the gentleman and helped Claire with her shoes and she accepted the assistance. We are looking forward to seeing Moog, Janine and Claire in July during our trip out east.
Ambrose hung out with his buddy Samuel on Friday night. These two are very cute together; they are both very chill.

His cousin Jessie came by for the afternoon on Sunday and we walked to the Forks and back. It was fun. Pre and post walk, she looked after Ambrose so I was able to plant the garden.

Sunday night: we just got back from a quick road trip to Brandon and back to visit Grandma Johnson (along with Auntie, Beans and Jess). Whew, I need a weekend to recover from the weekend.

Update - Ambrose at 2

It has been quite a while since we have posted an update to the blog, with the exception of uploading some youtube vids of Ambrose.

To provide a quick recap: we went to Mexico at the beginning of February; we traveled with our friends Luna, Natasha and Collin. Ambrose turned 2 on March 30. Dave returned to work at the end of April. We completed some renos, including removing the wall between the living and dining rooms and  have painted. Of course, there were lots of visits with family and friends.

Stats: at 24 months, Ambrose weighed 30 pounds and 9.4 ounces, was 35 inches and had head circumference of 20.5 inches. I use the past tense because I am sure he has gotten heavier and taller in past month and half.

Highlights:

  • loves balls, trucks, buses, construction vehicles. he has no interest in stuffed animals, blankets or anything cuddly. He has been known to fall asleep clutching a ball.
  • loves to kick balls (and is really talented at it). He can dribble the ball, kick it in air, and has a good strong straight kick.
  • can play catch
  • loves to dance (as evidenced in last video). prefers if you dance with him
  • still refers to his shows - cartoons, NFB shorts or home videos - as "puppies"
  • laughs out loud when watching cartoons, which I find hilarious
  • continues to demonstrate innate adeptness at using technology (i.e ipad, laptop etc.)
  • enjoys his time at playgrounds.
  • is very talkative. sometimes I do not understand what he is saying, which frustrates him. But when I figure it out, he will clap his hands and laugh.
  • enjoys demonstrating his independence  - opening the bottom freezer and grabbing popsicles, selecting his own socks or other clothing items to wear, putting on crocs or rubber boots (even if they are on wrong feet), and the freedom of roaming in a two story house
  • likes to help out: will bring you your shoes, will carry full cups, will help lift heavy items etc
  • before he goes up to bed, he likes to say good night to everything (toys, cats etc) and everyone (whether they are present or not e.g. nana and papa)
  • when we leave the house he also says good bye to everything/everyone (like above)
  • commonly heard words: puppies (for cartoons but also for our four footed friends), babies (for poopy diapers while patting bum, but also for children younger than he), peepee, juice, milk, boots, shoes, pants (must be fully dressed at all times; not comfortable in the nude unless making a run for the bathtub), truck, bus, outside, after (as in "mommy, gum after" when I have told him he must eat his meal first before he can have gum), counting 1-2-3, no! (so toddler), bath, yum-yums, waow (for the cats, as in making a meow sound with the w replacing the m), uh oh, oh no, bye-bye, hi or hello, please, thank you, yes-please, on (turn light off or on),  work, help,  there it is, what's this, hand (when he wants to hold hands), pen (for pens, markers, crayons etc), knock knock (while knocking on real or fictional door)....

Milestones: spent the night away from mama and dada. He was just fine. We, on the other hand, were not, or at least not initially (there were some tears).

Our photographer Amber Bond is moving away so we had one final photo shoot with her. Click here for the gallery.

Wine tasting with Michelle and Tamara

Fun night of wine tasting . French came out the clear winner, there was a tie between the Argentinian and Australian, and distant last was the Canadian.
