11 weeks

Ambrose had a busy week visiting family. Breanna slept over (I helped her to study for her final grade 9 exam). Grandparents Shirley and Abby arrived from The Pas to spend some quality time with baby. Highlights: family visits, dinner in Mitchell, my running in the Manitoban Marathon relay event, Fathers' Day brunch and completion of one small reno job (staircase wall was finally finished- thanks Abby).

Ambie's  activities and milestones: wanting to pull himself up into a sitting position when you hold his hands, wanting to stand while you support him, lifting his head up for longer periods while on tummy, grabbing/reaching for and holding onto things, putting things in his mouth, 'talking' (he sounds like a pterodactyl), drooling (is he teething?).

He is growing so quickly! We haven't weighed him on a proper scale but I believe he must be at or over 15 pounds! He is sleeping and eating very well.

untitled 38

(From left Karel's sister-in-law, Vivian, Christy, Kiri, Sheryl, Michelle and Christy's friend).

Last summer my friend Karel Funk (Christy's husband) asked me to pose for him. His art falls in the genre of hyper-realism (I believe). His paintings are incredibly life-like, so much so that it feels like you can reach out and touch the person portrayed. Many if not all of his painting subjects are of his friends and family (it's fun to spot who's who) but the faces are rarely shown or if the face is,  the eyes are closed.

You may recall David and I had hoped to join our friends and go to NYC for Karel's art opening at the 303 Gallery. Unfortunately, Ambrose had other plans for us. The painting of me was in the show. Above is a photo of the girls in front of 'my' painting.

Karel was also recently featured in W magazine and painting of me was featured in the publication as well! click here to read part of interview and click here for slideshow

I was told my painting was bought by the ex-wife of the owner/editor of Rolling Stone magazine. Apparently I'm on a wall somewhere in Paris!

Highlights of Week 10 (so far...)

  • Last Tuesday Ambrose and I joined my girlies and their babies at the family friendly old spaghetti factory.
  • Wednesday our little family went to see the new documentary Babies at Polo Park Silver City (they have a baby friendly viewing called Star and Strollers). Babies galore! Dave noticed two grandmas staking the place out before the babies arrived. They found a nice perch and made clucking noises when a new baby arrived to the theatre. Dave noticed these ladies were the first to leave and we saw them standing just outside the door so they could watch all of the exiting babies.
  • Thursday night we had a visiting canine: Gody and family's new puppy River spent the night. Mineu and Hibou were quite nonchalant.
  • On Friday, I took Ambrose to work for a retirement luncheon. Later that evening we had a late night visit with new parents Collin and Natasha and their little baby girl Luna. Do we see an arranged marriage in the future?

Daddy and baby

Dave got home from the train this past Tuesday and was quite pleased to see baby. It looks like Dave will be assigned which means a set work schedule, a huge relief because we can actually make plans this summer!

Here is a picture gallery of Dave and Ambie. Gody took the last series of pics when he dropped off River - we're puppy dog sitting for the night.

weeks 7 & 8

How the hours, days and weeks are flying by....
Ambrose is 9 weeks today.

Here's a recap of his 7th and 8th weeks:
  • baby and I have begun to establish the makings of a physical activity routine: Tuesday morning walks in Assiniboine Park with a Tracey from work and her baby Olivia, Thursday morning Mom and Me yoga classes and running with Renee (the chariot was great and Ambrose promptly fell asleep).
  • Ambrose saw my doctor - now his doctor - and unfortunately received round one of many immunizations to come (he cried but recovered quickly with no side effects, thank goodness).
  • At the medical appointment he was weighed and measured. At 7 weeks and 2 days 14 pound 9 ounces!
  • Ambrose has been having fun vocalizing (it's adorable), sucking on his hands and kicking his feet in the tub (bathing is one of this favourite activities but he hates it when tub time ends). He has become a drooling machine.
  • Baby has discovered the fun of a mobile.
  • David went on two more trips (2nd and 3rd of the season) and we are all getting used to his absence. Fingers crossed that he will be assigned this year which means no longer at the whim of the spare board and has a set summer schedule.
