16 weeks

Events of the past week:
  • Ambrose and I went for lunch with the girls (Christy, Michelle and Viv and her baby Jaelyn). Christy was due this past weekend. We are anxiously awaiting news!
  • We went for lunch with work folks.
  • I searched for a used exersaucer (aka "circle of neglect"!!) on Kijiji and I managed to snag one for a great price. Ambrose is wanting to stand all of the time (fully supported, of course). After I thoroughly cleaned the saucer I placed him in it to see if he would like it, and he did. The next day I placed him in it for few minutes longer and he moved all around the saucer and checked out all of the toys. He was quite pleased with himself.
  • Nana came over for a little visit.
  • On the weekend Ambrose and I went for a swim at Auntie Brytt's house (who was camping with Earl and the kids). Auntie Brooke was house/animal sitting. We went for a swim and Ambrose tested the water with his toes.
Observations and milestones:
  • Ambrose has taken to making these ear splitting scream/shrieks when he's happy.
  • First cold - Babes and I are feeling a bit under the weather with a summer cold. Despite his stuffy nose, Ambrose is still a happy baby.
  • Ambrose is pretty much sleeping through the night, with some occasional middle of night feeds. If we're home, he naps in the morning and afternoon, and of course enjoys mini cat naps through out the day.

15 weeks

Ambrose had another busy week visiting family and friends.

Highlights:
meeting Muoi's baby Anton, Ambrose trying the Jolly Jumper, big family visit as Papa and Earl installed our new air conditioner, Nana Shirley visiting from The Pas, bbq at Christy and Karel's, road trip to Grosse Isle (to watch Pepper Lang) and to Mitchell for bbq

Milestone/observations:
  • is able to grab his toes and do the 'happy baby' pose (stronger on his left side)
  • is teething like mad (loves cold teething rings)
  • can move around by pulling himself with his arms and wiggling and squirming his body (did a 180 in his crib the other day). Because we co-sleep Dave and I have long noticed he moves himself in the bed to be close to me through out the night
  • can become frustrated when playing with his toys; it is as though he desires to do something but does not yet have the mastery over his limbs and fingers
  • grunting, almost like he is a humming - but grunting - a tune. He typically has a toy in his hands or mouth when doing this
  • made dave and I laugh yesterday when he was banging fingers on keyboard and looking up at computer monitor on our old imac
  • has always been a great sleeper during the night (at least 5-6 hours) and is now enjoying longer daytime naps (1-2+ hours), but I normally must lie down and nurse him to sleep. He falls asleep quickly when he's in the car, carrier or stroller.
  • loves being outside, is interested in looking at plants and trees
  • loves to have books read to him

14 weeks - Winnipeg Folk Festival!

Busy week! Ambrose and I picked up Auntie Des from the airport Tuesday morning. We went out for breakfast and then had a lovely day hanging out. On Wednesday Ambrose and I went to Folk Fest opening night. We met up with Des and her girls who were camping at the festival. Thursday, Dave came home from the train and Sheryl, Eva and Derek arrived from Toronto. Dave, Ambrose and I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Folk Fest. Sheryl, Viv (on Friday),  and Kiri and their families were there as well. Attending Folk Fest with Ambrose made us realize how family oriented the event truly is! Babies and kids everywhere! It was great.

I think between Dave, Des and me, we took close to 500 pictures. It was difficult but I managed to select 50 pictures to share on the blog. Click here for the picture gallery

13 weeks (revised)

Gody, Naomi and Emma drove in for a visit on Canada Day. The Osborne street festival was in full gear. Hot and muggy...

check out Gody's pictures - there are some great ones of Ambrose, Emma and River.

Last Wednesday I weighed Ambrose at the Healthy Baby mom and me group and he weighs over 17 pounds! At 3 months!! I haven't measured his length in a while but he is definitely over 2 feet.

Milestones and observations
I realize that I am using this blog as a way to document milestones and observations so here are some details I don't want to forget:

  • mimics facial expressions. If you stick out your tongue he will stick out his. I catch him now with his tongue out.
  • is a drooling machine, going through several bibs in a day. He must be teething. He loves sucking on frozen teething rings (but it could also be the heat wave we have been experiencing this past week that is causing him to suck appreciatively on the frozen teething rings).
  • loves loves loves to lift himself up while lying down. If you hold his hands and count 1 - 2 - 3 he will push himself into a sitting and then standing position in one seamless move. He is so happy when when he completes this little routine.
  • loves to grab toys off of the table and suck on them or throw them onto the floor (after moving them across the table in a wiping motion)
  • is sleeping regularly through the night and has been for several weeks now, normally from 11pm to 5 am. After a feed he usually falls back asleep until 7am. Occasionally he awakens at 3am hungry.
  • is very social; he loves to interact with lots of people and does not mind being held by others. He has been that way since he was born.
  • becomes easily distracted while nursing. He'll stop and look to see who entered the room, what's on tv etc
  • loves car rides and chariot/stroller walks but he particularily loves facing outward in his baby bjorn (Dave discovered this a while ago)
  • is a very happy and relaxed baby. He typically cries for 4 reasons: hungry, gassy, wet diaper or wishes to be picked up/engaged with. I may have to add teething as a 5th reason...
  • can be a noisy sleeper and eater (makes little noises and sighs)
  • loves to be serenaded and takes great interest in musical sounds and instruments.
  • has a heart melting smile and an adorable giggle.

12 weeks (updated July 20th)

Here's the link for week 12 picture gallery.

It was a fun week!
  •  Janine and Claire (~5 1/2 months) arrived from Ottawa and we had a nice visit at Janine's mom's. It was the first meeting of the babes (second cousins). Check out the series photos of the two holding hands (likely random but cute nonetheless).

  • David arrived home midweek and was pleased to witness a milestone: Ambie rolled from tummy to back. Dave called me into the room and I saw it as well. However, Ambrose has yet to do it again! But you should see his ability to grab and put things into his mouth

  • My Auntie Darlene popped by for a quick little visit. After the weekend we had a fabulous visit with Moog, Janine and Claire.

  • I celebrated my birthday. We went for brunch with Collin, Natasha and Luna. Dave and Ambrose took me out for a late dinner at Fude. After the weekend my mom, Ambrose and I went out for a bday lunch.
  • My neighbour Tomoko and her baby Ren popped by for a visit as well (check out her double hold of Ambrose and Ren!)

On June 24, Ambrose and I attended a baby shower that my 'work family' organized for us. It was lovely  and we were spoiled! Ambrose received a fantastic exercise mat, outfits and a fabulous "me too" chair by company Phil and Ted. Check out the pics here.
